Terms of Service

Last Updated: July 13, 2026

1. Introduction

Welcome to Meticulous Community. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Meticulous Community platform (the "Service"), operated by Meticulous Home ("we," "us," "our").

By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. What the Service Does

Meticulous Community is a platform that provides:

  1. Data Backup — Secure cloud storage and backup of espresso shot data from your Meticulous espresso machine, including full machine telemetry (pressure, flow, weight, temperature), shot metrics, and raw data files.

  2. Shot Tracking — Tools to organize, analyze, and visualize your espresso shots, including charts, metrics tracking, equipment associations, and tasting notes.

  3. Social Sharing — A community where you can share your shots, follow other users, like and comment on shots, and discover new techniques.

  4. Community Profiles — A library of shared brewing profiles that you can browse, download, and rate.

  5. Machine Sync — The ability to connect your Meticulous machine on your local network for automatic shot import and profile management.

  6. Recommendations and Discovery — Suggestions for coffees, roasters, brewing profiles, and starting parameters, based on your equipment, brewing history, and preferences, and on the community's collective (anonymized) brewing data.

  7. Product Improvement and Machine Health — Analysis of shot and machine data to improve the product, help you brew better, and proactively identify potential machine issues (see Section 5.7 and our Privacy Policy).

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years of age to use the Service. By creating an account, you confirm that you are at least 16 years old.

4. Your Account

4.1 Registration

You create an account by signing in through a supported authentication provider (Discord, Google, or Microsoft). You must provide accurate information and keep your authentication credentials secure.

4.2 Username

During onboarding, you choose a username (3-20 characters, letters, numbers, and underscores only). Your username is permanent and cannot be changed after onboarding. Choose carefully.

4.3 Account Security

You are responsible for all activity under your account. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at privacy@meticuloushome.com.

4.4 Account Deletion

You can delete your account at any time through your Settings. Deleting your account permanently removes your personal data — your profile, name, photos, comments, likes, social connections, community profiles, notes, raw machine files, machine connection data, and equipment selections. This action cannot be undone.

Brewing measurements are retained only in irreversibly de-identified form (numeric brew records permanently unlinked from you), and anonymized/aggregated data derived from your activity (see Section 5.3) is retained — in both cases because this data can no longer be linked to you. See our Privacy Policy (Section 8.1) for exactly what is deleted versus de-identified.

5. Your Data

5.1 Ownership

You own your data. Your espresso shot data, tasting notes, community profiles, comments, and all other content you upload or create remains your property. We do not claim any ownership over your content.

5.2 License to Us

By uploading content to the Service, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide license to store, display, process, and transmit your content solely for the purpose of providing the Service. This includes processing uploaded images with an AI service provider to extract coffee details (e.g., reading a coffee bag label), and using your brewing history and preferences to generate recommendations for you. This license ends when you delete your content or your account, except for de-identified and anonymized data as described in Section 5.3 and our Privacy Policy.

Specifically:

5.3 Anonymized and Aggregated Data

We create anonymized and aggregated datasets from activity on the platform — including the numeric measurements of both public and private shots — to improve the Service for all users. This includes insights such as how different equipment combinations perform with various coffees, which brewing parameters produce the best results, and which coffees are popular in the community. Your privacy setting controls who can see a shot; it does not exclude the shot's anonymous measurements from these datasets.

This data is permanently stripped of all identifying information — it cannot be linked back to you or any individual user. Because it is not personal data, it is retained even after you delete your account. You can read more about this in our Privacy Policy.

Examples of anonymized/aggregated data:

This data helps the community by enabling better equipment recommendations, dial-in guidance, and coffee discovery. We also share aggregated, anonymized insights with coffee roasters to help them understand how their coffees are brewed and enjoyed — always as group statistics (computed across at least 10 users), never including your identity, individual shots, or contact information. We never sell this data.

5.4 Data Backup Commitment

As a backup service, we commit to:

5.5 Data Portability

You can export all your data at any time through your Settings. Your data will be provided in JSON format, which is a standard, machine-readable format that can be used with other services.

5.6 Privacy

Your data is processed in accordance with our Privacy Policy. By using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read and understood our Privacy Policy.

5.7 Our Access to Your Data

Authorized Meticulous personnel may access and analyze your shot and machine data (including telemetry, raw shot files, debug data, and machine firmware information) to improve the product, help you brew better, proactively identify potential machine issues, and support you when you ask for help. This access is limited to those purposes, is never used for advertising, and is described in detail — including your right to object — in our Privacy Policy (Section 4.2).

6. Acceptable Use

6.1 You Agree To

6.2 You Agree Not To

6.3 Content Standards

Comments, tasting notes, bios, and other text content must comply with these content standards. We reserve the right to remove content that violates these Terms and to suspend or terminate accounts that repeatedly violate them.

7. Community Profiles

7.1 Sharing Profiles

When you share a brewing profile to the Community Profile Library, you are making it available for all users to browse, download, and use on their own machines. You retain ownership of the profile.

7.2 License for Shared Profiles

By sharing a profile, you grant all users of the Service a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to download and use the profile on their own Meticulous machines for personal use.

7.3 Attribution

Shared profiles are attributed to your username. If you delete your account, your shared profiles will also be deleted.

8. Machine Connection

8.1 Local Network Access

The machine sync feature connects to your Meticulous machine on your local network using the IP address you provide. This connection is made directly from your browser to your machine — we do not access your local network from our servers.

8.2 API Keys

If you generate an API key for automatic shot uploads, you are responsible for keeping it secure. You can revoke API keys at any time through your Settings.

8.3 Data Import

Shots imported from your machine are subject to the same terms as manually uploaded shots. You control the privacy setting for imported shots.

9. Privacy Controls

9.1 Shot Privacy

Each shot has a privacy setting that you control:

9.2 Default Privacy

You can set a default privacy level for new shots in your Settings. You can change the privacy of any individual shot at any time.

9.3 Profile Visibility

Your username, display name, avatar, and bio are visible on your public profile page to all logged-in users. Your email address is never displayed publicly.

9.4 Blocking

You can block other users to prevent them from interacting with you (following, liking, or commenting) and to remove your content from their feed and theirs from yours. Note that content you set to Public remains public: a blocked user may still be able to view your public shots and profile, for example through a direct link.

10. Intellectual Property

10.1 Our IP

The Meticulous Community platform, including its design, code, features, and branding, is owned by Meticulous Home and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant you any rights to our intellectual property except the right to use the Service.

10.2 Open Source

Portions of the Meticulous Community platform may be open source and subject to their respective open source licenses. See our GitHub repository for details.

10.3 Copyright Complaints (DMCA)

We respect intellectual property rights and expect users to do the same. If you believe content on the Service infringes your copyright, send a notice to privacy@meticuloushome.com including: (a) identification of the copyrighted work; (b) the location (URL) of the allegedly infringing material; (c) your contact information; (d) a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law; (e) a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on their behalf; and (f) your physical or electronic signature.

We will remove or disable access to infringing content and will terminate the accounts of repeat infringers. If your content was removed and you believe this was a mistake, you may submit a counter-notice to the same address.

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Meticulous Home, its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from: (a) your use of the Service; (b) your violation of these Terms; (c) your violation of any third party's rights; or (d) content you upload to the Service.

14. Termination

14.1 By You

You can stop using the Service and delete your account at any time through your Settings.

14.2 By Us

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms. We will provide notice and an opportunity to export your data before permanent termination, except in cases of severe violations (e.g., illegal activity, security threats).

14.3 Effect of Termination

Upon termination, your right to use the Service ends. If you initiated the termination, your data is deleted per our Privacy Policy. If we initiated the termination, we will provide a reasonable period (at least 30 days) for you to export your data, unless termination was for severe violations.

15. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes:

If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you may delete your account.
